Ozone may react with some odor compounds in a controlled, empty space. It is not a reliable cure for every car odor. The EPA says ozone can harm lungs, may be ineffective at concentrations within health limits, and can create irritating by-products or damage materials.

A car is a small enclosed space. Output, time, temperature, materials, and ventilation affect the amount left in the cabin. People and pets must not be exposed. Source material in foam or padding may remain even after the smell changes.
